Saturday I’ll run with my buds from the NF Endurance team in the Jersey Shore Relay.  It’s a marathon broken into 5 parts.  I lucked out and only have to run 4 ½ miles.  Training has been tough with the miserable weather we’ve had the last 2 months but I think I’m ready to go for it.  My goal?  Finish ahead of Snooki.  I leave from a place called Gee Gee’s in Manasquan on the shore.  Ever been there?  Is it a pizza place?  T-shirt shop?  Strip club?  I’ll find out in the morning.

I run for a reason, and my reason is a little girl named Meadow.  You’ve probably heard me talk about her before.  Her Mom Lisa is one of our biggest fans, or she might be a stalker, I’m not sure.  :)

Meadow suffers from NF (Neuro-fibramatosis), a disorder that causes tumors to grow along nerves and can affect the development of bones and skin.  Click the link to learn more.

Little Meadow is a true inspiration.  She’s been through many surgeries in her short life.  Someday she will either host a show on the Weather Channel or marry Chester from Linkin Park, or maybe both!

Whenever I feel like I’m about to hit a wall while running, I look down at my NF bracelet on my wrist and think of Meadow.  Suddenly my aching legs don’t feel that bad.

I just got around to watching Monday night’s “American Pickers” that I DVR’d. If you’re not familiar with the History Channel show, 2 guys from Iowa travel around the country picking through junk in barns, garages & sheds. What a cool gig! Sign me up after radio.

This week they were in Malibu, CA and managed to find a surfboard collector and the dude that started Easy Riders magazine and another guy with 500,000 records amoung his 9 acres of junk. It was a picker’s paradise.

I like watching “Hoarders” too, but am always left feeling really bad for all these people. The guys on “American Pickers” buy junk with the idea of selling it for a profit. The people on “Hoarders” take collecting to a completely different level. When you can’t find your bed or the kitchen table, maybe it’s time to pull back a bit.

Sue and I were big time collectors/hoarders for years. We used to hit up the auctions in Exeter and Sheppton on Friday and Saturday nights, then the garage sales Saturday morning. Sue once bought a box of 30 glass door knobs from a Victorian House. I’m glad she discovered Real Estate!

I would buy every radio I could get my hands on.  Big, small, wood, plastic…it didn’t matter.  I’ve thinned out my collection over the years and have just hoarded my faves.

Gotta go take a nap. Excuse me while I climb over the boxes of junk.  There’s a bed here somewhere.

We’ll be off the radio tomorrow and here’s why–

Last year I learned that I had a relative I never knew existed…a Great Aunt named Celia.
Celia was 17 when she came to the United States from Russia. Her big sister promised her a job and the chance of meeting a man. Celia was a seamstress working at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in NYC.

Celia was living and working in NYC for 8 months when a horrific tragedy took her life and 145 of her co-workers.  They were mostly immigrant women and teenage girls.

Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of this tragedy…the Triangle Factory fire.

My Great Aunt, like the other workers that perished, was getting ready to leave for the day when the fire started. Their bosses had locked the doors out of fear they were stealing scraps of material.

Many were trapped on the 9th floor like my Great Aunt Celia.

When the NY Fire Department arrived they raised their ladders to discover that they were only tall enough to reach between the 6th and 7th floors.

More than 90 including my Great Aunt chose to jump to their death rather than get burned alive. It was a scene reminiscent of September 11th.

The fire was one of the events that helped change American Labor Unions and labor laws.

My Dad never told story of his Aunt Celia when my sister and I were growing up.  I learned of our family’s connection to this moment in history when a researcher from HBO contacted me. He knew more about my family than we did!

We will be attending the memorial at the scene of the fire tomorrow to show our respect for a long lost, but not forgotten family member.

The HBO documentary about the tragedy airs tomorrow night @ 6:30.

OK, so a stripper in Texas has cleaned up her act, and now she’s teaching pole dancing classes. Good for her. And she does it on Sunday’s for people that attend her church.

“It’s so much fitness, I don’t teach women to be strippers.”

And instead of “Pour Some Sugar on Me” she plays Christian music. But I still can’t figure out why she’s doing it “for Jesus.” Does that make it any better?

And you’ve got to love the 2 newscasters at the end of the video.

We kicked off “Dancing with the Stars” Madness this morning.  Each of us picked out 3 celebs.  The last one standing wins the jackpot (whatever loose change we can find under our car seats) AND the first one to have all 3 of their celebs eliminated must perform some sort of public humiliation (TBD).

DWTS Draft Picks:

Rocky

1–Kirstie Alley

2–Chelsea Kane

3–Romeo

Sue

1–Chris Jericho

2–Wendy Williams

3–Sugar Ray Leonard

Lissa

1–Ralph Macchio

2–Kendra Wilkinson

3–Petra Nemcova

What do you think of our picks?

Who do you think will win the Mirror Ball Trophy and who will be the first to go?

Did you hear about the guy this week that was assaulted for taking a photo of someone with a triple Mohawk?

The dude said he had been taking photos of “anything that was remotely interesting or unusual,” according to the affidavit.

Let’s face it…a photo of someone with a TRIPLE Mohawk is more than remotely interesting!

Wouldn’t you want a pic of this guy if you saw him pumping gas at Sheetz?  I know I would.  In fact, I would first compliment him on his one-of-a-kind hairstyle then ask if he knew anything about A Flock of Seagulls doing a reunion tour.

So keep that in mind the next time you’re snapping away looking to upload pics to www.peopleofwalmart.com

Ask first.  And compliment them on their excellent choice of velvet sweats.

You don’t want to be the victim of some wacko with a “remotely interesting” hairstyle!

Have a GREAT weekend.

Pretty psyched about today.  It’s St Pat’s!   I’ll let my ¼ Irish heritage shine proudly all day.  In case you’re wondering, the name is Lenehan on my Mom’s side.

Our friend Kevin Boylan, owner of Kevin’s in Kingston is joining us in studio for some Irish cheer.  If you’re looking for authentic Irish food to celebrate today, check out his place on Wyoming Ave near Kingston Corners.  Get there early!

What are your plans?  Green beer?  Corn Beef & cabbage?  A pint of Guinness?

If you’re tossing back a pint or 2 here’s a few traditional Irish sayings to use in a toast:

“Thirst is a shameless disease so here’s to a shameful cure.”

“Before you call for one for the road, make sure you know the road.”

“The truth comes out when the spirit goes in.”

“Drink is the curse of the land.  It makes you fight with your neighbor.  It makes you shoot at your landlord.  And it makes you miss him!”

“A narrow neck keeps the bottle from being emptied in one swig.”

Got a favorite Irish toast or saying?  Comment here.  I’ll use it tonight!

Slainte.

Here we are on the eve of another PARADE WEEKEND ready to rip it up again on the streets of Scranton.

Sue, Lissa and I and our bud Krazy Kong will be pre-gaming at a secret location, then joining up with the rest of the KRZ crew for the parade. We’ve been bumped up to the front of the parade so you shouldn’t have to wait long for our entourage.

This year the talented LAKELAND HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND will hit the streets with us. The Chiefs have been working hard the last month rehearsing for their big moment marching with us. We can’t wait to see & hear what they’ve cooked up.

And we’ll be looking for you guys along the parade route as well. Who knows what else we’ll see–maybe a few Pandas, Flying Monkeys or circus acts.

Say hi if you see us marching by and we’ll hook you up with free beads from the Hardware Bar.

Once the parade ends we usually hit up Sal’s Pizza on Linden Street for a slice or 2 then try to squeeze into whatever watering hole will have us. This year look for us with our friends at the Backyard Alehouse.

Let’s do it up right this weekend, have fun, but stay safe.
Slainte!

Dear Michelle,

I have a confession to make.  I cheated.  After having a relationship with you for the past 3+ years I strayed.  It was bound to happen.  You know what they say about long distance relationships—they never work out.

I knew this day was coming, I just didn’t know how to tell you.  Remember, it was nothing you did or said.  It’s not you, it’s me.

There’s someone new in my life.  I’m not sure if this new relationship will last either, but  I’m willing to give it a shot.

Let’s remember all the good times we had together over the years.

I’m sure someone new will come along to fill my place.

Thanks for everything you did.

Your friend,

Rocky
